The Office of Assessment has four full-time professionals, and we regularly employ graduate and undergraduate Research Assistants. Students who are interested in work opportunities are encouraged to monitor DukeList or reach out to assessment@duke.edu.
Consultation for Survey Development
The Office of Assessment can consult with academic programs to develop and revise surveys. Please contact Dr. Jennifer Hill (jlh9@duke.edu) to schedule an appointment to discuss your survey objectives. Please note that we require as much notice as possible, especially during busy periods of the year (e.g., at the end of the term). Other Duke resources for survey guidance include:
- Social Science Research Institute
- Duke Initiative on Survey Methodology
- Duke Learning Innovation
- COFHE survey data collected by Duke's Office of Institutional Research.
The Office of Assessment makes available an Excel inventory of all COFHE survey questions.
Survey Software
The Duke community is encouraged to use Qualtrics, which is supported by the Office of Information Technology. Every member of the university community, including students, may access Qualtrics and use it for survey development. We recommend that you visit OIT's Qualtrics page or Qualtrics Support for additional information and links to training workshops. Undergraduate students are strongly encouraged to consult with the appropriate university personnel, including but not limited to their research mentors/supervisors, the Undergraduate Research Support Office, the Dean of Students Office, and/or Campus IRB to ensure their compliance with university policies and procedures.
Survey question bank
The Office of Assessment created a survey question bank for open use by Duke personnel and students. Full access instructions are available online.
